About the Independent Women's Club Hockey League


 

The League entered its inaugural season in 2013 comprised of eight school-sanctioned New England women’s club ice hockey teams.  Co-founded by John Vlachos, Jr. (Salem State) and Paul Munzing (Endicott), the League was formed to structure and standardize play and competition amongst women’s club hockey teams.   Teams play a 14-game regular season schedule with the top four teams earning playoff berths scheduled for mid-February 2014.  Games are played with three seventeen-minute stop-time periods, are officiated by certified referees and follow NCAA ice hockey rules. 

The original eight teams comprising the league included Bates College, Dartmouth College, Endicott College, Harvard University, MIT, Salem State University, UMass Lowell, and Westfield State.  

In the 2014-15 season, the league expanded to 12 teams in two divisions (North and South) with six teams in each division.

 

In the 15-16 Season the League had 20 teams: 8 Teams in the Presidential Division, 10 Teams in the Adirondack Division, and 2 teams in the Associate Division. A formal Board of Directors was formed and established League Rules and Requirements. 

 

In the 16-17 season the League had 24 teams: 7 Teams in the Presidential Division, 13 Teams in the Adirondack Division, and 4 teams in the Associate Division. 

 

In the 17-18 season the League had 30 teams: 8 Teams in the Presidential Division, 13 Teams in the Adirondack Division, and 9 teams in the Associate Division. 

 

In the 18-19 season the League had 31 teams: 8 Teams in the Presidential Division, 14 Teams in the Adirondack Division, and 9 teams in the Associate Division. 

 

In the 19-20 season the League had 36 teams: 11 Teams in the Presidential Division, 15 Teams in the Adirondack Division, and 10 teams in the Associate Division. 

The 20-21 Season was cancelled to due the CV19 Pandemic.

 

The 21-22 season league structure has 38 teams seeded in 5 Divisions: Presidential East and West each with 7 teams, Adirondack North and South, each with 7 teams and an Associate division with 10 teams to start,
